She texted me today asking for some guidance and mentioned she wanted to plan a scavenger hunt which brought back a memory I'd shoved to the back of the brain....
Anyone remember my HS boyfriend, first love, cheated on me on my bday, recently got married same day as Mia's ex?
Well, we had been broken up for months and I'd decided that my college boyfriend just wasn't cutting it and I really missed dickhead.
We'd just gotten home for the summer from college and I decided I needed to make a BIG statement to get him back...We'd stopped speaking when I jumped into a rebound relationship after he'd cheated on me and he was prettttty salty about it.
So my BIG statement was a giant scavenger hunt that spanned the entire city of Baltimore.
I enlisted the help of Eve (ex bitch of a best friend who double crossed me, the remainder of that story is on the way) who is crazy artistic to help. Together we cut out clues that were shaped as giant letters. Each giant paper letter had a rhyme on it to lead to the next clue.
After he'd collected all the letters he had to unscramble them to determine what the letters spelled and at the end, that would lead him to me.
The adventure began with my best friend, Dustin. Dustin was friends with both dickhead and I and he reallyyyyyy wanted to see us back together. Our friend group was severely shattered after the break-up and no one really knew what a summer of Elle and dickhead being apart would look like. We'd already barely survived Thanksgiving and Christmas break apart and people were just eager for their social lives to get back to us as a duo vs us as demons.
We RAN shit in Baltimore...Blair and Chuck style (but not as well dressed)
So Dustin invited dickhead over for a BBQ. When he arrived he told him that I had planned a scavenger hunt and that he didn't wanna get in the middle but he really thought dickhead should just go and see what I had to say.
I knew dickhead well enough that there was no chance he'd say fuck it and bail. Curiosity killed the cat and off he went.
Each stop was a special place in our relationship. I had the starbucks we always went to - I went in, gave the barista a picture of him with the envelope containing the clue and said PLEASSEEEEEEEE if you see this guy, give him this...it's a big deal...she was thrilled to take part, everyone around town thought this was the cutest thing in the world. So I went to our first date spot, our valentines day date spot (Which wasn't open yet, I had to beg someone to watch out for a knock while they set up), our secret spot we'd have sex, his high school - behind the bleachers where we'd meet after lacrosse practice (Id blown up a balloon, put the clue inside, taped the balloon to a rock and wrote on the balloon - pop me, etc, etc. This hunt took him EVERYWHERE and it took hours to complete.
Finally, the last clue said: "I understand if you still don't want to see me but I will wait at this final location for two hours for you. If you don't show, I at least know I tried my hardest."
(I'd timed how long the hunt would take and added in extra time incase he had trouble deciphering the rhyme that led him to the next stop)
The final location was a spot in our local state park called the king and queens seat. It was a hike to get to, located in the middle of the park.
I sat there alone for 1hr 54mins, sweating bullets that he might actually stand me up.
But as all great and chaotic love stories go, he finally appeared.
I was able to win him back for the summer until my college boyfriend decided he wanted to fly out to visit me...
Stay tunes for what happens next.

PS would I ever do this much for a guy now?
HELL TO THE NO. Those days are long gone.
